Statement on Roma Genocide Remembrance Day
Olivia Marks-Woldman, Chief Executive of HMDT, states the importance of marking Roma Genocide Remembrance Day on 2 August.
‘Roma and Sinti people were targeted by the Nazis for complete destruction. Today, on the 76th anniversary of the night when 2,897 Roma men, women and children were taken to the gas chambers, we honour their memory. We remember those who were murdered, we learn about the prejudice and persecution the community continues to face, and we pledge to continue to work towards a better future, together.’
