One Day Photography Exhibition

The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) 2022 was One Day. To find out what this theme meant to young people across the UK, we asked them to send us a photo that finished the sentence ‘One day...’.

We were delighted to work with a stellar line up of competition judges, including star photographer Rankin, Open Eye curator Mariama Attah, and Rwandan survivor and photographer Mussa Uwitonze. They were joined by HMDT Trustee Tulip Siddiq MP and our CEO, Olivia Marks-Woldman OBE to judge the photographic competition. Find out more about the judges here.

The judges curated a selection of the photos which best represented the One Day theme and the work of Holocaust Memorial Day Trust.

I was blown away by the photos, all of which were powerful and poignant. The photos gave me hope that as a society we can learn from the mistakes of the past and forge a better future.

The submissions for the HMDT One Day competition were impressive in their empathy, maturity and insight. The photographers showed a real range in their approach, practice and vision, and I think they offered unique perspectives that I was surprised and thrilled by.
