To mark Holocaust Memorial Day, North Kesteven District Council is honoured to announce an educational art competition for ages 11 to 16 year-olds.

Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) is an international day that takes place on the 27 January annually. The Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT) advocate remembrance and reflection to the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, and the millions of people who lost their lives due to the discrimination inflicted upon them by the Nazi group.

We would like to encourage young people to explore what Fragility of Freedom means to them through a self-portrait submission for display at Hub Sleaford over Holocaust Memorial Day.

Theme
Reflections of identity: A self-portrait showcase

North Kesteven District Council invites students to express their unique identities and ‘freedoms’ through creating a self-portrait, encouraging them to include aspects of their life such as interests, emotions, and aspirations. We encourage entries to be as creative and unique as possible and completed in any medium or multi-media.

Judging
Entries will be shortlisted by Sleaford-based illustrative artist Ruth Burrows as well as
North Kesteven District Council Leader Councillor Richard Wright.

Selection criteria - How expressive they are as self-portraits and the way they
express the student’s individual freedoms. Use of colour, technique, and imagination.
