Join us as we open the museum doors for free to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

This event is co-curated by The Creative Activists, a group of creative people aged 18-25, who are seeking to create powerful acts of sharing and connection with their local communities to help make a positive difference in the world. Over the past few months, the group has been exploring the Holocaust histories in our collection and reflecting creatively on Holocaust Memorial Day’s theme, ‘the fragility of freedom’.

Come to our Museum Open Day and see the Creative Activists’ new temporary exhibition, which explores stories of displacement. Take part in creative activities, including zine-making and contribute to art installations. You will also get a chance to explore our 1874 Spanish and Portuguese synagogue and museum galleries and enjoy new dishes from our vegetarian Cafe, inspired by stories from our collection.

As part of the Open Day, you will also get an opportunity to see “I Say British, You Say Jewish”, The National Holocaust Centre and Museum’s touring exhibition, combining digital and physical displays in a mobile exhibition stand. The exhibition traces historical and contemporary forms of anti-semitism and prejudice, as well as exploring and celebrating diverse, contemporary Jewishness. The exhibition can be enjoyed for free but we encourage booking in advance as the capacity is limited. You can book your free ticket HERE.

This event is the Creative Activists’ chance to share their work and talk to visitors about what they were doing throughout the project. By organising this event we also want to give everyone a chance to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day through creative activities, art and music and to allow a space for reflection on the complex issue of freedom: the freedoms we enjoy and take for granted, the ones we must protect, and those we still fight for.
