Musique d’un Autre Monde - Second Concert
Sunday 21st January, 7.30pm, Newcastle University Kings Hall
Following on from the Opening Concert, this second concert once again focuses on Polish composers affected by the Holocaust. The concert will include pieces by:
● Alexandre Tansman, who fled the Nazis for America in the late 1930s.
● Karol Rathaus, who fled Berlin in 1932 on the eve of the Nazis taking power.
● Jerzy Fitelberg, who escaped the Nazis to America via Paris in 1940.
● Mieczysław Weinberg, who fled to the Soviet Union as the war began, but lost his parents and younger sister Esther in the Trawniki concentration camp.
