Friday 26th January, Holocaust Memorial Day commemorations began with a wreath-laying ceremony in St John's Gardens.
Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Mary Rasmussen was joined by political leaders, Rabbi Natan Fagleman and MJRC Vice President Barry Levene for the ceremony.
Then at 11am commenced the Holocaust Memorial Day Service of Remembrance at Liverpool Town Hall. Guest speaker at the service was Lu Lawrence, the daughter of Holocaust survivor Zigi Shipper, who dedicated the last 25 years of his life to sharing his story with school pupils. Rabbi Fagleman recited a prayer.
Poet John Gorman read his poem ‘Peace Perfect Peace.’ Pupils from King David High School performed music, and students from Alsop High School and The Belvedere Academy read poems and text related to this year’s theme.
