Create Together – a group art activity

This activity will support you to bring your organisation or group together to produce a piece of artwork, which can be shared online and displayed in a window, online or at a Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) event.

Create Together – a group art activity

If you are not able to physically join together, your group can still take part in creative projects, which are always popular HMD activities. In this activity you will get creative, and work together to make a memorial flames display to commemorate the Holocaust and genocide. Each person in your group will make and decorate an element, which will all be brought together to create a powerful image. The final image can be shared online, displayed in a window or at your HMD event.

The below resource will support you every step of the way, from exploring the concept behind a memorial flame to choosing life stories to inspire your group.

Make a memorial flames display resource

For this to work whilst you are not physically able to come together, you will need to ask each of your participants to create their artwork element in their own environment and send them to you, in advance of Holocaust Memorial Day. You will then put all the elements together to create a finished, cohesive piece.

A really simple but effective artwork could be a handprint collage; each of your participants send in a print of their hand and they are shaped into a flame.
