Activity type: Public activity
January 27th is Holocaust Memorial Day, when we remember victims of genocides around the world, and especially the victims of the Nazi Holocaust. To help us mark the day, there will be a reading by Jean Boase-Beier of Holocaust poems translated from languages as different as Spanish, German, Polish and Japanese. Each poem will be briefly introduced and set in context. In this way we can hear the voices of those who were later murdered because they were Jewish, or disabled, or who opposed the Nazis on religious or political grounds. We will also hear from those who survived, those who helped them, and those who reflect today on what we can learn from these terrible events.
