In the run up to Holocaust Memorial Day 2007, the diaries of genocide survivor Zlata Filipovic are being published for one month only on MySpace.
Zlata was just eleven when she started writing dairies of her experiences in the Bosnian war. These diaries were published in 1993, and became an international bestseller. Since then, Zlata has become a contemporary voice for children suffering the effects of genocide, and has been hailed as the new Anne Frank.
To mark Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) 2007, extracts of her diary will be published on MySpace. The first extract went live on 02 January 2007, with new extracts added each day, to be concluded on the date of the national Holocaust Memorial Day event, the 28 of January.
The key message for HMD 2007 is Same. But Different, which serves to celebrate society’s differences. Anyone who visits the site is invited to post comments about what makes them the Same. But Different, and why they are proud to be so.
Visit www.myspace.com/hmdsamebutdifferent to read Zlata’s diary and add your comments.
