New HMD Website
HMDT has recently relaunched our website www.hmd.org.uk. The new website has more resources and contains more information about the Holocaust and genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. It also now provides podcasts which we will be adding to in due course. You can download all materials from HMDT free of charge – this includes the community guidance, education guidance including web exclusive materials, artwork, book group discussions and suggested readings.
Order your HMD Resources
HMD is only 50 days away but there is still plenty of time to order materials which can help with your planning. In addition to the main community and education guidelines which are available, HMDT also have a range of materials suitable for display and distribution. These resources include:
- A set of 4 A3 posters examining the theme Stand up to Hatred
- A set of 8 A5 postcards which focus on individuals who have challenged hatred
- A short film on DVD
- Copies of the 2009 theme paper Stand up to Hatred
- An A5 booklet explaining what HMD is and why it is so important
All materials are free of charge and can be ordered by emailing enquiries@hmd.org.uk or calling 0845 838 1883. Stock is limited so please do order as soon as possible.
Tell us about your event
Events across the country are now being published on the HMD website. We want all HMD events to be as well publicised and attended as possible. Please add your event to the listing on the HMD website which will ensure that we are able to direct people towards their local events. We may also be able to assist with securing local press coverage for your event. If your event is not open to the public (such as a school assembly) please do still let us know about it as we are keen to record all of the commemorations of HMD which take place.
HMD Activity Day
On 18th November HMD trustee Agnes Grunwald Spier opened the youth activities day hosted by HMDT in partnership with the Welsh charity Valleyskids. Agnes spoke to 120 students and teachers about the experiences of her family during and after the Holocaust. The students heard fellow Holocaust survivor Eva Clarke’s story and watched a youth drama production about the children trapped in the Warsaw Ghetto. In the afternoon everyone helped to make panels of painted silk which will be sewn together into a Stand up to Hatred banner and used at the Valleyskids HMD event. This panel represents a Holocaust survivor speaking and their story traveling into the future as young people tell others what happened and promise to stand up to hatred.
Don’t forget to send HMDT pictures of student artwork linked with HMD09.
