Organising HMD Events
Each year, hundreds of events take place across the UK on or around 27 January to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. Events are organised by a wide range of people – from School teachers to Librarians, by Local Authorities and Arts Groups. There really is no rule as to who can and who cannot organise a HMD activity, or a specific model of a standard HMD event. It is only essential that a HMD activity is appropriate and beneficial to the audience of that particular event.
These local events are vital to the success of HMD in the UK. It is through these events that we learn the lessons of the past to create a better future. By working in and with communities HMD event organisers can bring individuals and groups together to remember those whose lives were destroyed or altered beyond recognition in order to gain a better understanding of the importance of standing up against hatred, discrimination and persecution in the present day.
