2008 Community Events

Across the United Kingdom hundreds of events take place in local communities to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day. At least 470 events took place in 2008 and were organised by schools, faith groups, local councils, youth groups, race equality, LGBT and community groups.
These events remembered victims and survivors of the Holocaust and Nazi racial and social persecution. Many events also focused on the experiences of later genocides and experiences of discrimination in Britain today.
The theme of Holocaust Memorial Day 2008 was Imagine… remember, reflect, react and many organisers used this as a focus for their events.
A commemorative book has been produced listing all of the events we know about having taken place in 2008. This book serves as a record of the events which took place in 2008 and as a source of inspiration for events in 2009. For a free copy of this book, please contact us, alternatively, you can download the HMD08 commmemorative book here.
