Education Consultative group

The Education Consultative Group meets once or twice a year to advise Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT) on its resources for schools and educators. It is chaired by HMDT’s Education Officer.

The Education Consultative Group (ECG) was first established in 2018, and is comprised of academics from UCL’s Centre for Holocaust Education, museum education professionals from the Imperial War Museum, teaching practitioners from primary and secondary phases, staff from partner organisations, and other education specialists. The group first met in 2019, advising on our Teacher Guidelines which have been used across the country by teachers in a range of different settings.

The group contains a wide variety of teaching and learning experience across the Holocaust and genocide education sector. As well as advising on specific education resources, the group is available to support HMDT on pedagogical or education matters, to ensure we respond to changes in Holocaust and genocide good practice, and the British education system.

I am very pleased to be part of the HMDT’s Education Consultative Group and provide guidance to ensure the continued excellence of their educational resources. Supporting educators with valuable historical and personal information, lesson plans and inclusive activities is at the heart of what HMDT does so effectively. This work not only ensures that students learn the lessons of the Holocaust, Nazi Persecution and subsequent genocides but also aims to empower them to feel empathy and stand up to hatred and discrimination.
